Auckland university turns to HP for managed print

AUT director of IT Liz Gosling said HP had helped the school review key business functions, such as enrolment, to find the most efficient way of execution and in the shortest process time.

She added that this involved quantifying the number of steps in a process and the people who “touch it” to establish true process costs.

The consultancy, which is part of HP’s managed print service offering, aims to optimise companies’ imaging and printing infrastructure, and improve and streamline document workflows, said Daryn Rickwood (pictured), HP New Zealand imaging and printing country manager.

“HP works with you to assess, deploy and manage an imaging and printing environment tailored to meet your business needs, while helping you reduce costs, conserve resources and simplify document-intensive processes,” he told ProPrint.

Rickwood said HP pursues a three-tiered approach: optimising infrastructure, managing the environment, and improving workflow.

As part of the process, HP ensures the right equipment is installed at the appropriate location, Rickwood said.

“This can vary widely between customers, depending on their printing needs,” he said. “Some customers may need several smaller mono printers distributed throughout the office, while others may need fewer big multifunction devices. HP calls this a balanced deployment strategy.

“HP’s balanced deployment methodology, which is underpinned by a broad range of products, allows businesses to deploy only the required speed, quality and functionality at the time of printing.”

“On a simpler level, HP also allows businesses to implement things such as group policies for automatic duplex printing, colour and ‘draft mode’ printing. HP has helped customers realise up to 20% savings in their printing and imaging environment,” he added.
