Aus-first C9110 for Brisbane printer

Brisbane printer InHouse Print and Design has capitalised on a 40 per cent sales jump by buying the Australia’s first Ricoh Pro C9110 digital printer.

Managing director Bob Karlsson says growth in wide format and perfect bound books is responsible for the huge sales boost over the past year, and new equipment will keep the 16-year-old family business competitive.

“The wide format section has been on a continuous growth and we expect this section of the business to grow further, and we also expect the perfect bound books section to continue growing,” he says.

InHouse bought the C9110 at the Ricoh stand on the first night of PrintEx, along with a Pro C7110 digital production printer.

Karlsson says the business needs to stay competitive and continue on its growing streak so it was essential to invest in the new machines.

“Things are pretty tough at the moment so to stay competitive we invested in the machines from Ricoh, which we have a great relationship with,” he says.

“The machines have the versatility and reliability that we could not turn away from.”

The business success comes despite a planned merger with fellow Brisbane printer Queensland Posters fell through.

The two companies had enjoyed sharing jobs for years and the decision to join forces was to offer their customers a wide range of printed products under the one roof, and also manage colour consistency and the overall look of the print.

However, after a few months of trials Karlsson says the partnership did not work. “It didn’t go through. We had a trial period together but then it was decided that we go our own way,” he says.

The 16-year-old family business, which started at owner Bob Karlsson’s house and operated there for five years, offers print services include digital, wide format, signage, as well as design – now with 16 staff.

Ricoh Australia production print national sales manager Raj Chandiok says the necessity to enhance value and increase client satisfaction remains the main goal of every business, and the Ricoh Pro C9100 series provides clients with new and improved profitable revenue streams.

It has a high productivity feature with print speeds of up to 130ppm based upon A4, and supports media up to 400gsm in both simplex and duplex.
