Canon launches new Océ ProStream

Canon is launching its latest digital continuous feed colour inkjet printer, the Océ ProStream, which it says pushes inkjet further into the commercial printing mainstream.

Canon is the global market leader with high volume inkjet printing, through its Océ branded printers, which have been on the market for almost a decade now, launching at drupa 2008.

The new Océ ProStream prints uncoated, inkjet-optimised, gloss and matt-coated papers at 80 metres per minute at premium quality, according to Canon. It is designed to produce direct mail and marketing collateral.

It offers a resolution of 1200dpi, with multilevel dot modulation at full 1,076 A4 per minute productivity across uncoated, inkjet optimised and offset-coated substrates.

Canon says the latest piezo drop-on-demand inkjet print head generation is leveraged with Océ Multilevel technology for sharper details, smoother halftones and smarter ink usage. It says the sensitive floatation air dryer ensures that the printed paper is not touched until the print images are fully robust, ensuring no scratches or changes to gloss levels and minimal paper stress for maximum quality.

Haydn Wills, business manager, Canon Professional Print says, “We deliberately took a green-field approach to design, with a commitment to create a product that would open up business opportunities for commercial printers, particularly in premium direct mail and marketing collateral.

“We are confident that the Océ ProStream series will continue to drive our success in our competitive market. With more than 33 per cent market share globally, Canon/Océ is the worldwide leader in continuous feed inkjet. The Océ ProStream will build on this heritage and carry forward our proud tradition of innovation in professional digital printing.”

The printer has won an iF design award from Germany’s iF International Forum for Design, winning over the 58-member jury, standing out across 5,500 entries from 59 countries.
