EFI unveils new XT hybrid printer

EFI has taken the wraps off its new super-high-speed VUTEk XT hybrid printer – a solution designed to drive a significant reduction in total cost of ownership as compared to existing screen printing or wide-format digital print options.

According to EFI, the new printer boasts a throughput exceeding 375 boards per hour (equivalent to a production of around 1,115sqm per hour), innovative ink delivery, and uses the power of EFI’s integrated workflow.

EFI has mentioned that the speed of the printer is supported by a range of automation options which include full pallet-to-pallet, in addition to jumbo roll support for roll-fed applications and robotic options, as well as some manual work.

It also features new CP5G ink delivery technology, which aims to deliver complete ink circulation, superior dot placement, as well as five-picoliter drops and greyscale imaging – a robust feature set which it says provides fine text imaging and near-lithographic imaging with a four-colour CMYK ink set.

The printer is supported by EFI’s Fiery XF front-end/RIP with Intensify colour gamut expansion and Ink Optimiser for reduced ink usage.

It is also connected to the EFI IQ Cloud-based analytics software and is compatible with EFI’s Productivity Suite MIS/ERP and workflow tools.

EFI vice-president of worldwide marketing Ken Hanulec described the printer as “the fastest VUTEk ever built”.

More information on the new printer will be revealed at the EFI Engage virtual users event, which is currently running in place of its customary Connect event in Las Vegas, until 4 February.

EFI said the XT will be made in A/NZ later this year.

EFI also took to the virtual event to recently roll out two new roll-to-roll printers in the higher-volume end of the superwide-format signage and display graphics market – the EFI VUTEk Q3r and Q5r UV LED printers.

It also announced that the world’s first VUTEk Q5r has been installed at a large format digital printing house in Israel, Yahav Digital Print.
