Finding the right people

Nexus Resource Management has just opened in Ponsonby specialising in finding staff for the industry as well as undertaking general recruitment.

Duncan is a qualified printer himself, and Anthony a photo-lithographer, their father, Tony McVey has recently retired after more than forty years printing for some of Auckland’s top companies, another brother and two brothers-in-law are still in the trade. With this heritage, the brothers say they know the industry inside out, and they also know what employers want. Both are members of Printing Industries New Zealand.

Their inside knowledge says Anthony has already stood the fledgling company in good stead because “we can ask the technical questions and we know the difference between the different skill sets within the industry. It makes a difference to the candidates to be asked sensible questions too.

“It’s essential in this industry to get it right the first time because the pressure on the printing industry today means that companies cannot afford too much down time.”

Nexus has its own web site where it advertises jobs for tradesmen to look at and candidate profiles for employers to view. They also advertise on two popular job seeking sites, Netcheck and Seek which attract both Kiwi and off-shore job seekers.

They’ve already successfully sourced and placed tradesmen from Great Britain and Australia and will be launching an offensive to find staff for New Zealand companies in South Africa this year.
