HP Indigo ws4500 boosts digital production of labels

Labelexpo Americas 2006 was also the scene for the release of the company’s HP Indichrome Plus – with green HP ElectroInk – and was the venue for the premiere of the company’s HP Label Job Estimator software.

Attracting a lot of attention at the exhibition, the new HP Indigo press ws4500 has a host of new features and is a versatile press geared for 24/7 production. The ws4500 has a speed up to 15.91 m/minute in four-colour mode, or 31.7 m/minute in one or two colour mode. It is specifically engineered for cost-effective production jobs of approximately 6,500 linear feet and for a variety of label and packaging applications.

A near-zero downtime on spot colour ink replacement and the option of a 5th,6th and 7th colour stations and near-line priming, translates to a measurable reduction in the time needed for operator intervention. The press also provides cost efficiencies when incorporating high value custom colours through a new fast ink replacement feature that enables users to seamlessly switch jobs, improving productivity on smaller-quantity work.

“One out of five of our customer’s converting jobs require the use of a custom-blended ink, which can be a challenge in a short-run digital printing environment,” says vice president and general manager of HP Indigo division, Alan bar-Shany. “While HP Indigo remains unique among digital press manufacturers for its Pantone –licensed custom colour capabilities, the HP Indigo press ws4500 also enables those colours to be used without stopping the press, a factor that improves the profitability of individual jobs, as well as the overall productivity and value offered by this world-class printing engine.”

To illustrate the efficiency of the HP Indigo presses, HP showcased a Tower of Power at its booth at Labelexpo, clearly highlighting the number and variety of jobs produced on a single HP Press within an eight-hour shift. The information contained in the tower was obtained from Utah-based Flexible Technologies before Labelexpo.

HP’s new improved Indichrome on-press expands the previous colour set of CMYK, orange and violet HP ElectoInks with the addition of green HP ElectroInk. A change in pricing programs for click change contracts, green HP ElectroInk is now free for Indigo press ws4000, ws4050 and ws45000 customers.

The Label Jobs Estimator software, which was also a major promotion at the HP stand ensures that converters gain the maximum benefit from all of their production equipment. The innovative new software provides analytical processing capabilities to determine whether a given job is more profitable on an HP Indigo or on a conventional flexographic press.
