Kodak Stream ‘will change print forever’

Perez believes that Stream's offset quality print, high running speeds, digital workflow, nil makeready and low cost will transform print. Perez says it will attract new jobs, but he says the 80 per cent of all print that is currently printed offset is the target market for Stream. He says, "Stream will be able to print any job that is currently printed offset."

Kodak's drupa stand features two technology demonstrations of Kodak Stream Inkjet Technology. The Stream Concept Press shows a system with resolution that exceeds 600 dpi at fast production speeds. Developed from the ground up as a high volume production system solution, the technology demonstration incorporates Kodak's ten years of roll fed color inkjet experience coupled with technical expertise in print technology development, workflow, color management, and ink and media interaction.

The Stream Concept Printhead from Kodak is also on display, demonstrating the speed and integration capabilities of the technology. Capable of delivering monochrome offset class VDP applications at up to 1,000 fpm to commercial offset printers, the Stream Concept Printhead from Kodak shows Stream Inkjet Technology's potential for hybrid printing. As the first planned product with this new technology, the 4 inch Stream Concept Printhead from Kodak is designed to produce a deep, rich black at 600 dpi on glossy substrates, and to be easy to operate and service.

Perez also announced that Kodak had no less than 25 new solutions on its stand, and he promised the GCG division of Kodak, which now accounts for almost half its rfevenue will continue to make massive investments in print.

Among the other new products on the Kodak stand are a flexo plate that can run on offset presses, so opening up packaging opportunities to offset printers. A new version of NexPress was launched, the S3600, which can produce up to 3600 A4 pages an hour, while the latest version of the Digimaster is up to 300 monochrome pages a minute.

Kodak also had workflow developments, with the launch of a new Colorflow software, introducing colour relationship management between differing inputs and outputs. Digital print workflow tools, a device based color management platform, next generation screening technologies, a PDF editing solution for Adobe Illustrator CS3, enhanced automation and job planning capabilities for packaging workflows, and extended support for JDF lead a series of new features in Prinergy workflow system, version 5.0.
