Newsmediaworks appoints new CEO

The newspaper publishers association Newsmediaworks has selected its new CEO, Peter Miller, who has spent the past 25 years in the media sector.

Miller replaces Mark Hollands who resigned earlier this year after being in the position since 2013.

Michael Miller, chairman, NewsMediaWorks says, “Peter Miller’s strong connections to, and deep understanding of, the publishing industry and all the key industry stakeholders, as well as his experience in technology and digital solutions for advertisers and agencies, made him the stand-out candidate as CEO for NewsMediaWorks.

“In his new role,he will steer the industry body to focus on helping create operational efficiencies for the benefit of all publisher members as well as communicating the strong value proposition of news media to advertisers and media agencies.”

Peter Miller says, “After a long and satisfying career with Adstream, I am excited to return to my first love of publishing. Our news media publishers have some of Australia’s most trusted and respected brands that attract large and engaged audiences and present a compelling proposition for advertisers. I look forward to working with the NewsMediaWorks team to promote the industry and its many initiatives.”

Miller’s his last role was as executive director – global market strategy at Adstream, an advertising technology solutions company.

During his career, was group sales and marketing director at Fairfax Media, and at News Corp was marketing and circulation director at Mirror Australian Telegraph Publications and advertising sales director for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. In the magazine sector, he was national advertising sales director with ACP Magazines (now Bauer Media) and advertising sales director at Pacific Magazines.

NewsMediaWorks is a not for profit industry body established to advocate the cultural influence and commercial value of print and digital news media in Australia. It was founded in 2006 by Fairfax Media, News Corp Australia and Seven West Media.

Miller will have a tough job, all newspaper publishers are facing a continued decline in printed advertising revenues with the swing to digital, but digital ad revenues fall far short of print. Fairfax has just cut a quarter of its 500 journalists.
