Training and travelling boosts your awareness

It’s back to work for most people and time to set a little motivation in place to get the New Year off to a good start. In case you haven’t thought about it, Ipex 2010 in Birmingham, UK is on in about three months time, so it’s time to start planning if you are looking to take a trip. You’ll be able to check out some new ideas and the latest equipment bargains with suppliers keen to make sales in the wake of the GFC.

Printing Industries is organising a tour with land-only packages from $980pp (twin share). Flights can be booked according to your personal travel requirements and airline preference. Call Marty or Sonia on (02) 9388 0666, toll-free 1800 634 714 for more details or check out Printing Industries website: www.printnet.com.au. Look for the Ipex banner.

Skilling up staff
As you begin to prepare for what will hopefully be a good business year, plan to include some staff training for your employees and some business training for your enterprise. Printing Industries is offering a wide range of programs in 2010 covering employee skills and customer knowledge. There is also our Sustainable Green Print certification program, based on ISO 14001 for companies to achieve environmental compliance certification.

Starting in Sydney on 1 March is ‘Print Awareness – File Preparation for Pre-press’. This is an introductory course identifying the essentials for producing workable electronic files for commercial print. ‘Print Awareness – Print Production Techniques’ starts on Friday 5 March and is also an introductory course to equip participants with a broad understanding of commercial print. With an emphasis on printing processes and production workflow, it aims to educate participants to define and communicate their individual printing requirements.

Both courses make an ideal “gift” for special customers who you would like better educated and for your own staff. At $209 for Printing Industries members and $244 for others, it makes a good investment in improving your workflow. Call Simon Peppercorn on 0421 117 359 for more info.

Awards ahead
If you were a gold winner in any of the state print competitions or simply want to check out the best Australia’s printing industry has to offer, pencil in Friday 26 March 2010 when the 27th National Print Awards will be staged at Sydney’s Exhibition and Convention Centre. Invitations will be available shortly or you can get in early by contacting Lynne Trensky or Luisa Rampone on (03) 8541 7333.

Digital opportunities
The new media age is upon us – how is your business going to handle it? Will it be a friend or foe? There could be some answers for you at a one-day conference in Sydney on Friday 19 February featuring some of the world’s outstanding digital media people.

Held in Sydney’s Doltone House, the conference gathers digital media industry leaders from around the globe to share their insight into the rapidly evolving media, marketing and advertising industries.

Joe Kowalewski is national communications and technical services manager at Printing Industries Association of Australia
