Women in Print participants hear industry’s winning ways

Angeline Wyatt, business consulting co-ordinator for Heidelberg Graphic Equipment, and organiser for Women in Print told Australian Printer that this year’s event was the best yet with attendance numbers well up on previous years.

Commenting on Yates’ presentation – entitled Winning Ways – Wyatt says, “Sandra’s presentation certainly connected well with the industry audience. Her presentation had a strong career and business focus with visitors learning the keys of her success throughout the industry. She was ideal as women like to hear from people within their own industry.”

The Sydney event had the strongest attendance with 174, while Melbourne was a close behind at 148. Wyatt adds that the participants represented a cross section of the industry ranging from company owners to administration staff. A number of attendees also brought their own customers to the event.

Yates, whose resume includes chair of the Australian Council for Women, board member for the Advertising Federation of Australia and publisher of Time Magazine’s South Pacific addition, opened her presentation with a focus on patience, which she claims is not only a virtue but a strategic tool.

She says, “What I can say is that I’ve learned to tell the difference between those times when I should trust my instincts, and those times when I should just be patient and wait for better times.

“Being decisive is not always the best strategy – sometimes having the patience to let events unfold will see an issue resolved without the need for any intervention from you. A wise woman can turn patience into a highly strategic tool.”
