Xerox launches iGen4 and primes inkjet pump

CEO Anne Mulcahy opened her address reflecting on where Xerox had come from in the eight years since it first appeared in commercial print at drupa 2000, claiming the company had fulfilled all its promises since then. Mulcahy said the Xerox new business of print had been fully adopted, and not only by Xerox, but by the industry as a whole.

Mulcahy said Xerox printers produced 40 billion colour pages a year in 2007, a 30 per cent increase on 2006. She also claimed that 50 per cent of digital colour pages were produced on DocuColors or iGen3s, and said the colour digital print market was worth €54bn in 2007.

Xerox is on the way to developing an inkjet press, and had its chief researcher spend a significant amount of time explaining the company`s newly developed gel ink technology, which will form the basis of its inkjet printer when it appears in tow or three years time.

The new iGen4 is a quarter to a third more productive than iGen3, and comes with inline spectrophotometer. It will not supercede iGen3, which will continue to be available, but will be available as an additional printer.

Xerox also announced a new press, the ConceptColor 220, essentially two iGen3s glued together with Xerox Nuvera tandem printing architecture, for duplex printing, producing 220 pages a minute.

Xerox also officially launched its Continuous Feed Digital Web Press – Uses flash fusing technology for monochrome and colour continuous feed printing. Also new is the Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press -which comes with robust production features such as coated paper handling, heavyweight media support, and feeding and finishing options at an entry-level price. The new DocuColor 5000AP Digital Press builds on the success of the Xerox DocuColor 5000 and prints all paper weights at the rated speed of 50ppm. Also fresh is the Xerox 8254E/8264E Colour Wide Format Printers which the cpmpany says has a smaller footprint system produces full-colour banners, point-of-purchase signage and posters.
