Paperlinx UK wide format sold

Administrators have found a buyer for a second piece of the collapsed Paperlinx UK operations, selling the wide format operations to global plastics company Vink Holdings.

The business, known as Paperlinx Visual Technology Solutions (VTS), sells wide format kit, paper, and other substrates and is one of the more viable operations in the group.

The deal will save 66 jobs and keep two sites in England open, including reopening one that was closed by administrators on April 1.

Vink Holdings chief executive officer David Williams tells ProPrint sister magazine PrintWeek that the initial plan is to sell all substrates and media, while equipment sales are under review.

“We’re just going to try and re-establish the business, which I think was a good one for many years. It became associated with all the trouble in the paper industry and that’s what really did for it. We are rebuilding it to what it was,” he says.

“We are looking to grow it back to its previous position in the market. It was a very strong player in terms of digital POS.”

What equipment resale contracts the company will still have is unclear, with at least one manufacturer, Korea-based Inktec, already finding a new distributor for its wide format printers.

A total of 96 jobs of Paperlinx UK’s 1200 workforce have now been saved between this and its reel paper operations, but this will probably be it as the commercial paper businesses are not expected to find buyers.

The remaining UK assets will be auctioned off next month.
