PrintEx launches new Forums

Forum moderators are high profile identities; journalist, author and former rugby player for Australia, Peter FitzSimons on the Thursday and multi award-winning journalist and documentary maker, Jenny Brockie, on the Friday.

Each PrintEx Forum will start at 11.00am and run for about 1.5 hours. The Forums are free to attend but places are extremely limited and seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so early arrival is recommended.

FitzSimons will moderate debate around the theme: Control Your Future – Insights and strategies for survival and success in an increasingly complex print industry environment.  Keynote Speaker is Gordon Towell, managing director, Pacific Print Group. This forum explores the impact of globalisation on the printing industry in Australia, specifically the potential loss of skills and expertise resulting from off-shoring and outsourcing.

Brockie’s theme is Digital Dilemmas – making sense of the array of impacts, technologies and issues caused by living in, and supplying to, a digital world. Keynote Speaker is Alan Robinson, general manager, Letters, Australia Post. The digital world is now a reality and, as companies come to understand the opportunities this brings with it, new ways of doing business are emerging.  What are some of these and what are the implications for print?

The Forums will take place n the Hospitality Lounge, Mezzanine Level, Hall 5 from 11am-1pm

PrintEx 07, Australia's premier print exhibition of the year, is on course to break its own record, with event organiser Reed Exhibitions setting itself the ambitious target of 200 exhibitors, and 5,500sqm of space.

Reed has already signed up more that 170 exhibitors and sold more than 90 per cent of the floorspace, with less than 500sqm still available. Its target figure would represent a 13 per cent increase on the 2003 show. Just over 10,000 people attended the event four years ago, the organisers are hoping to top that figure this time around. If they do it will be a significant achievement.

Speaking at the pre-show exhibitor briefing, Grant Churchill, chairman of the PrintEx 07 Board, says the exhibition was aiming to attract graphic communications professionals from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and New Zealand. Specifically targeted are printers, packagers and designers. Churchill says its purpose was to benefit the whole graphic arts industry.

The popular PrintEx shell stand concept will continue, however exhibitors this year will be able to specify stand upgrade packages of various configurations. Height restrictions will remain in place, as this is one the strategies designed to keep exhibitor costs down, and so provide the opportunity for as many companies as possible to exhibit.

PrintEx 07 is owned by supplier association, GAMAA, and employer association, PIAA. The presence of Stephen Anstice from IPMG on the board indicates the show is not targeted solely at small printers, but is looking to engage with firms of all shapes and sizes.
