Quickmail grows with acquisition

Quickmail has acquired competitor Lasermail as the print and mailing outfit aims to increase its footprint, and is now the fourth biggest mailhouse in Western Australia. Sophie Stott, Quickmail marketing director, says the purchase adds to the company’s $3m core business and allows it to grow.

Stott says, “Lasermail had a similar offering to us so when we heard it was up for sale it seemed like a good way to grow our core business with new clients and key staff. “This expansion will mean product initiatives, improved production speed, greater flexibility in terms of machinery and technology.” The acquisition of Lasermail comes with an Oce 120 Varioprint digital printer, a five station polywrapper, and three C4 and C5 inserting machines. Michael Broughton, director of Lasermail, is retiring, however five of his nine staff will have a job with Quickmail, giving it a headcount of 20 employees. About 30 per cent of Quickmail’s business is trade work, but Stott says the Lasermail clients are mostly direct. Quickmail prints, warehouses and distributes mostly promotional mail, catalogues and publications, including variable data and print on demand capabilities with a suite of cutsheet and inkjet printers. Stott says state government contracts are a big part of its business, including promotional flyers and publications for the Health and Regional Development Departments and related agencies. “Because we do mostly promotional mail our volumes have not dropped like others that rely on transactional mail, and we have added digital services like email this year to offer our clients more,” she says.
