W2P survey to gauge industry transition

The PIAA wants to know how printers are using web-to-print, and if it is making a difference to their business in the changing print landscape.

An online survey aims to examine the use and success of the technology so the association can provide businesses with better information and support on how to cope with structural change.

The survey will run until this Friday September 19 and will help determine how the industry is managing the transition, and what assistance would be helpful to printers.

PIAA chief executive Bill Healey says it is important to understand how businesses are going with taking on web-to-print as it is a major driver of the industry’s transformation.

“Anecdotal feedback suggests that there has been some confusion around W2P and the understanding of its capabilities, implementation, cost and integration into existing MIS infrastructure,” he says.

“The results of this survey and subsequent report will help identify the use and perceptions of web-to-print, the various models being used, the extent of their integration and return on investment. It will illustrate both the successes and failures.”

Healey says the technology includes more than an online ordering application, and can include capabilities for estimating, marketing, brand and document management as well as online stock ordering and inventory management, cost analysis and calculating conversion rates.

The survey will form part of a report on web-to-print including comprehensive information on platforms, an overview of the technology, implementation styles, a comparison with previous data, case studies and tips for the future.

Once the analysis is complete, a report will be available to PIAA members in late October.

The members will receive the full report, with an executive summary to be made available to others.
